Engineering Capstone
Engineering Capstone Course 2014-2015
Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi (TAMU-CC)
Instead of picking from a list of projects offered by the department of science, another student and myself sought to find something that hadn't been done before. Using our connecting's in the ROTC group on campus we linked up with an outside group to work on a water recovery project in the then booming fracking (hydraulic fracturing) industry at the time.
The project goal was to take disposed fluids and solids left over from fracking oil wells, also known as solid waste disposal, and see if it would be possible to reclaim water. This process would need to separate the solids and liquids as well as reduce harmful bacteria found in the liquids.
Using skills developed while attending engineering courses at TUMA-CC , our team was able to take a tabletop proven method and build a functioning prototype. Winning second place overall on the course was a huge milestone for our time at TAMU-CC and solidified to our team the amount and time and energy devoted to the project was worth while.
Following graduation, we took our prototype to several location across Texas as well at Arizona to demonstrate how it functioned in a real world environment. We currently hold a patent on the process developed.
